WHO Director General Tedros Adhanom Gabrisus warned that another epidemic is unavoidable, stating that it is “not a theoretical risk, but is the certainty of an epidemic science.” Talking about again, he emphasized that the next global health crisis can strike at any time, whether in 20 years or tomorrow.
Ghebreyesus emphasized the importance of getting ready for his final arrival. “Covid-19 epidemic can now look like a distant memory, beyond conflict and geopolitical and economic disruption. But the next epidemic will not wait until things are calm,” He said.
He reiterated that another epidemic “can be in 20 years or more, or it can happen tomorrow. But it will happen, and in any way, we must be ready. It is not a theoretical risk; it is a certainty of an epidemic science.”

The WHO chief hoped that the WHO could reach a consensus during the talks on the epidemic agreement. He assured that “this agreement would not violate the sovereignty of any member state. Conversely: it will strengthen national sovereignty and international action.”
