Kolkata, Oct 24 (IANS) Leader of Opposition in the West Bengal Assembly Suvendu Adhikari on Friday claimed that the Trinamool Congress is deliberately misinterpreting the Calcutta High Court order withdrawing the protection granted to him from future FIRs without the court’s prior permission.
Interim protection from future FIRs without prior permission of the court was granted to him by a single-judge bench of Justice Rajashekhar Mantha of the Calcutta High Court in December 2022.
On Friday, a single-judge bench of Justice Jai Sengupta of the Calcutta High Court withdrew that protection from future FIRs without prior permission of the court as the earlier protection, being an interim arrangement, could not be continued indefinitely.
Responding to the order by Justice Sengupta’s bench later on Friday evening, the officer said only that part of Friday’s order is being highlighted where protection against future FIRs has been withdrawn without the permission of the court.
“The Trinamool Congress is calling this order a big blow to me. But in reality, this order is a blow to them, because the same single-judge bench had quashed a total of 15 FIRs already registered against me. In the case of other existing FIRs, the court has ruled that the investigation on these FIRs can be continued, but by a joint special investigation team that will have representatives from both the state police as well as the CBI. So whose blow is this? So I I welcome Friday’s decision. Give orders,” the opposition leader said.
He also said that now, with the withdrawal of protection against future FIRs without the court’s permission, the state police can again start trapping him by filing new FIRs, which he will fight legally, as they have been doing till now.
“Let them try to implicate me again in false cases. I will fight it legally,” the officer said.
