Tips to pass your driving test as rates reach a three -year high

Web Desk, 11/09/2025

Britain’s driving test pass rate has reached its highest level in over three years, suggesting that more learners are making calls to take an exam only when ready.

According to data from the driver and vehicle standard agency (DVSA), some 50.7% tests conducted in August were successful.

It is above 50.1% during the last month, and the best performance since May 2021 was when the pass rate was 51.9%.

Officials have urged the learners not to conduct a test until they are convinced that they will not pass, as part of measures aimed at dealing with the backlog of driving tests.

A total of 145,610 tests were conducted in August, increasing from 138,846 during the same month last year.

Number of future tests booked – a measure of backlog – reached 644,398 in August, one of the months of the year when the lowest tests are conducted, partly due to the summer holidays.

One of the first parts of the driving test is the ‘Show Me, Tail Me’ question, in which the candidate will ask you two vehicle safety questions before driving the vehicle.
