Tiger Woods The latest injury for the 49-year-old as he bids to return to the PGA Tour has resulted in back surgery to repair a ruptured disc in his spine.
The 15-time major winner said he had lumbar disc replacement surgery on Friday and although it was deemed “successful”, it is unclear when he will return.
“After experiencing pain and lack of mobility in my back, I consulted doctors and surgeons to get tested,” Woods said in a statement.
“The scans revealed I had a ruptured disc in my L4/5, disc fragments and a damaged spinal cord. I chose to have my disc replaced yesterday, and I already know I made a good decision for my health and my back.”
This is the second time Woods has had back surgery in more than a year His lumbar spine operation in September 2024 To relieve his lower back nerve injury.
This adds to the growing list of injuries that Woods has had to deal with He ruptured his left Achilles during training And practicing at home in March this year.
Woods has not competed since the Open Championship at Royal Troon in 2024.
He planned to return for The Genesis Invitational earlier this year but dropped out due to his mother’s death weeks ago.
His only golfing appearance this year has been in the new TGL indoor competition.
