Several futuristic urinals have recently started popping up in China to help people better manage their health through automated urine monitoring and analysis. These smart toilets have been rolled out in public men’s toilets in major Chinese cities such as Beijing and Shanghai. According to New York PostThis urinal provides quick and accurate on-site urine testing for just 20 yuan, which equates to about $2.76 (roughly Rs. 230).
Shanghai-based documentary filmmaker Christian Peterson-Clausen shared a photo of one such urinal and shared his experience in a Twitter thread. “Recently, health checking urinals have started popping up in men’s restrooms all over Shanghai,” he wrote. A private company is offering urinalysis for RMB 20. Naturally, I tried it.”
“The whole process is as simple as one might think. I paid my fee via WeChat and had my results before stepping down the escalator,” he further wrote, while sharing photos of the high-tech machine, which shows a man urinating into a urinal with an explanation written in Mandarin.

His results, which said he had a calcium deficiency, were ”otherwise unremarkable”.
A few days later, he messed around with another one of these urinals and did another test. Apparently, I was drinking enough milk by then. Tests also seem comprehensive,” he wrote, informing users that their calcium levels had improved.
I don’t think this will replace your doctor’s visit but it may very well prompt it.
A cardiologist told me he’s seen more people having heart attacks now because of Apple watches.
That’s kind of what I’m hoping for here. pic.twitter.com/VpTOHYa97Y

“The company seems to be installing it all over China and I think this is great given how important early detection of health problems is. I don’t think this will replace your doctor’s visit but it may very well prompt it. A cardiologist told me he’s seen more people having heart attacks now because of Apple watches. I hope the same here,” he added.
