Escape to Tarabel in Lisbon with your lover, Rose Fournier’s latest hotel masterpiece
“I have reviewed many hotels in Portugal, and Tarabel is close to perfection for a luxurious, original Lapa stay. I would recommend this hotel to couples looking for an avant-garde retreat in Lisbon, away from the tourist track.”
Rachel Everett
Place
Located in the peaceful diplomatic district of Lapa – lisbonMayfair – Tarabel has the great advantage of being in the city away from the crowds, allowing guests to experience a slower side of Lisbon. It’s a skip-and-a-hop to the leafy Jardim da Estrela (5-minute walk) and Lisbon’s Time Out Market for food (10-minute walk), and the main sights are about a 30-minute walk at most – or do that Lisboeta do this when they are traveling in the hills in summer, and Uber. The location is ideal for travelers who want to mix city and coast, as everything is very accessible, with attractive surf beaches such as the Costa de Caparica. About 30 minutes drive.

stretch
The boutique hotel itself is a 19th-century mansion that feels more like a home-from-home than, well, a super stylish friend’s house. Located on a quiet, tree-lined street in sleepy Lapa, it is so discreet from the outside that it does not immediately come across as a hotel.
Once inside, you won’t want to leave. From the luxurious interior design to the vintage objects – like the whimsical, giant bird cage at the entrance – everything has been created with care. Stepping through the doors, the modern, botanical-influenced, ultra-light-filled interiors with contemporary art and antiques in the lobby, lounge and dining area are completely magnetic – even better, they overlook the beautifully decorated garden pool and reach out to the Tagus River.
Service
The service at the hotel is second to none; It would be difficult to get this kind of personalized service at a larger hotel. The team is small and friendly, providing excellent service, genuine local tips and recommendations for lesser-known beaches and restaurants. Generally, nothing is too much trouble, and guests are made to feel like part of the family.
bed and bath
All the exquisite rooms and suites (there are nine of them) offer wonderful style and a dose of space – they are luxurious and bright in natural shades of white, gold and green with botanical elements. Each room is absolutely luxurious in design, furnishings and bedding; This is where you want to be. There are no TVs in the rooms, and guests are encouraged to treat the house like their own. Bathrooms include powerful rainfall showers, standalone, ceramic bathtubs and Molton Brown lotions and dispensers.
Although not as spacious as the ground floor suites, the first floor suites are still the best rooms to book; They are beautifully designed around nature, with plenty of space and high-spec furnishings, inviting lounges and sun lounger-clad terraces with spectacular views. Book a room with a terrace if possible; The morning light is wonderful.

Food and Drink
Tarabelle has a restaurant and a small, intimate dining area with incredible views. Chef Afonso Blázquez Raposo leads the charge. Breakfast is a sensational affair with superb vintage crockery and the finest linens overlooking the pool garden. The morning menu includes fresh orange juice and strong coffee, flaky pastries, homemade granola, yogurt, honey, and eggs. At dinner time, highlights include delicious Portuguese rice with chunky red prawns and delicious Iberian pork. Finish with a beautifully-plated red fruit tartlet.
