Mumbai, September 30 (IANS) Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said on Tuesday that there is no concept of wet droughts, but announced that the state government would provide similar SOPs offered during the drought, especially to farmers in the state.
The Chief Minister said that the State Cabinet reviewed the damage to agriculture and other properties due to heavy rains and floods in Marathwada and other parts of the state.
He said that preliminary estimates show that about 60 lakh hectares of agriculture has been affected due to torrential rains and floods in the state.
“There is a continuous demand for wet droughts, but there is no mention of wet drought anywhere in the manual. Till date a wet drought has never been declared. However, the cabinet today took a decision that has been given to the people affected to hand over the government to hand over the affected people. Day,” said the Chief Minister.
He said that by next week the state government would make an announcement regarding the relief package to the farmers of the state.
Chief Minister Fadnavis said that the state government has already started a disbursement of Rs 2,215 crore to the farmers, saying that this money will be deposited directly in the accounts of the affected farmers before Diwali.
He announced that while providing this assistance, the e-KYC position has been resting.
The announcement of Chief Minister Fadnavis comes when the opposition Shiv Sena-UBT, Congress and NCP-SP have demanded that the state government should announce wet droughts and provide financial assistance of Rs 50,000 per hectare.
The opposition has also urged the Governor Acharya Devvarat to call the influence of monsoon anger and immediate financial assistance to farmers and other citizens to call the three -day special session of the State Legislature.
Chief Minister Fadnavis presented a separate memorandum to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah last week, demanding adequate assistance from the National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF).
The Chief Minister told Union Minister Shah that the Maharashtra government requires maximum relief allocation from NDRF to provide adequate assistance to the affected farmers and to reconstruct their livelihood.
He said that maximum assistance from NDRF would help losses/land damage, livelihood assistance for flood affected families, assistance for damaged houses and damaged properties.
He said that a detailed proposal regarding assistance for flood -affected agricultural land is being sent to the Central Government.
He expressed deep concern about heavy rains and the situation caused by floods in many districts of Maharashtra, saying that it had caused unprecedented damage to agricultural land and severely affected the livelihood of millions of farmers across the state.
