Officials said Guwahati, 3 October (IANS) Assam’s prestigious singer Zubeen Garg, two musicians – Shekhar Jyoti Goswami and Amritprabha Mahant were sent to 14 -day police custody on Friday in an important development in the investigation into the death of Shekhar Jyoti Goswami and Amritprabha Mahant, the officials said.
The first arrested pair in connection with the high-profile case was produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) court in Guwahati on Friday.
Police sources confirmed that both were sent back to the CID headquarters for further questioning, confirmed by police sources.
Investigators revealed that Goswami and Mahnta were reportedly in Singapore at the time of Garg’s death, a detail that has now come under a fast investigation.
Officials said that the foreign journey and its time would be carefully examined whether it bore any relevance for the circumstances around the singer’s death.
Celebrated in Assam and Northeast as one of the most influential cultural icons in the region, Garg died in circumstances that continue to create widespread debate and public sentiment.
His family has alleged that he was forced into water despite the already existing medical condition, a claim that has inspired investigators to investigate the sequence of events that cautiously expanded their deaths.
Police officials said the investigation is still in a sensitive state and emphasized the importance of gathering corroborative evidence before drawing any conclusion.
“Given the stature of public spirit and Garg in Assam’s cultural scenario, this investigation requires complete accuracy and caution.”
Earlier, Siddharth Sharma, the late singer of the North -Earth India Festival and the manager of the organizer, was detained Shyamakanu Mahata related to the investigation of the untimely demise of Sangeet Mestro in Singapore.
The judicial remand of the two musicians marks one of the most important stages ever in the case, which underlines the authorities that no angle will be ignored.
As the public attention continues, the CID has assured that every effort is being made to bring clarity and transparency in the investigation.
