Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised Team India pacer Mohammad Shami at an election rally here on Friday. Addressing the rally, Prime Minister Modi said, “The whole world has seen Mohammad Shami’s amazing achievements in the Cricket World Cup. The central government has honored Mohammad Shami with the Arjuna Award for his excellence in sports. “The Yogi government has taken two steps forward. Yogi is also building a stadium for the youth here. I congratulate the people of Amroha very much for this,” Prime Minister Modi said.

Shami took seven wickets in the World Cup semi-final against New Zealand in Mumbai. He is currently ruled out of the Indian Premier League (IPL) due to a left ankle injury.

The Prime Minister also praised Amroha’s ‘dholak’ (a musical instrument).

Prime Minister Modi said that this land, located on the banks of the mother river Ganges, bears witness to the footsteps of Lord Krishna.

The second phase of voting will be held on April 26, covering Amroha, Meerut, Baghpat, Ghaziabad, Gautam Budh Nagar, Bulandshahr (SC), Eight assembly constituencies of Aligarh and Mathura.

In Amroha, the main electoral contest is between Kanwar Singh Tanwar of the BJP and Kunwar Danish Ali of the Congress. Mujahid Husain of the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas is also in the electoral race. A total of 12 candidates are in the fray from Amroha.
