“The Way MS Dhoni…”: Gautam Gambhir’s honest opinion on CSK vs KKR rivalry cricket news

Kolkata Knight Riders mentor Gautam Gambhir talked about the rivalry between Chennai Super Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League during a conversation with Ravichandran Ashwin on his YouTube channel on Monday. Of the 31 head-to-head meetings between the Knight Riders and Super Kings in the IPL since 2008, CSK have held a significant lead, winning 19 times compared to KKR’s 11 wins, with none of those matches coming in a match. There was no result.

The 42-year-old player said that he always felt that the Chennai and Kolkata teams during his time were very similar in their approach to the game.

“It’s not just a matter of the magnitude of the competition. When two good teams play against each other, it’s going to be an exciting and tough encounter. I always felt that CSK and KKR would be better off with the way they approach the game. It was very, very similar,” Gambhir said on Ashwin’s YouTube channel.

The former left-handed player further said that the strategies of both the sides were very similar.

“The way MS Dhoni used spinners and we also had three quality spinners. CSK had three quality spinners and probably the conditions at that time, whether it was at Chepauk or Eden, were very similar. What is Eden as a ground was very similar to each other. That’s why KKR had to be at their best to be able to beat CSK. That I always felt that CSK and KKR were exactly similar teams at that time,” said the former India opener.

Gambhir returned to the KKR team as a mentor in November last year. Earlier, he was with Lucknow Super Giants in IPL 2021 and 2022 where he played the same role. Talking about his IPL career, the southpaw has played for Delhi Capitals and KKR. He has won two IPL titles as a captain with the Knight Riders in 2012 and 2014.

Talking about IPL 2024, KKR will be playing for a place in the final when they take on Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in Qualifier 1 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Tuesday.
