New Delhi, 18 July: In a step welcomed by India, the United States has named a proxy of Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-A-Taiba (LET) resistance to Front (TRF) as a foreign terrorist organization (FTO) and a specially designated Global Terrorist (SDGT). The group claimed responsibility for the April 22 terrorist attack in which 26 civilian tourists were killed, an incident India is strongly associated with Pakistan -sponsored terrorism.
Foreign Minister Dr. S Jaishankar described the US decision as a powerful affidavit of intensive cooperation between the two countries in combating terrorism.
Dr. S. Jaishankar posted on the social media platform X: “TRF-appreciate @Secrubio and @Statedept to nominate a Lashkar-e-Tayiba (late) proxy-as a foreign terrorist organization (FTO) and a specially designated global terrorist (SDGT).
The designation of the US State Department said that India’s prolonged international recognition of concerns about Pakistan -backed terrorist groups working in Jammu and Kashmir under new surnames. TRF, although introduced as a local terrorist organization, is widely identified by intelligence agencies, as its Pakistani is a ribnded front of late to obscure the origin.
The April 22 attack, which targeted unarmed tourists at Pahalgam’s popular Hill Resort, condemned both domestic and international quarters. The latest designation by the US government is expected to increase global efforts to separate terrorist organizations working in Jammu and Khamir.
India has consistently raised the issue of terrorism emanating from Pakistan in multilateral forums, and the inclusion of TRF in American terrorism lists is seen as a diplomatic victory in Delhi that strengthens its case. The designation imposes legal and financial restrictions on the group and its operators, limiting their global access and resources. It also strengthens the allied structure such as the Indo-US anti-terrorism joint working group, which continues to destroy the terrorist network in South Asia.
