The royal title they don’t want!Andrew and Meghan named Britain’s least popular royals

They may no longer be called Their Royal Highnesses, but Prince Andrew and Meghan Markle can still claim to be Britain’s least popular royals, a new poll has found.

The disgraced Duke of York’s car crash, according to recent investigation news night 86% of those surveyed had a negative view of The Interview, which now features not one but two independent TV series.

He is followed by the Duchess of Sussex, whose new wellness brand is also unlikely to appeal to 64% of Britons who admit to having a negative view of her.

Their plummeting popularity contrasts with that of the Princess of Wales and the Prince of Wales, who respectively top the polls and have won national admiration for their courageous handling of Kate’s cancer diagnosis.

Andrew’s lack of popularity stems from his links to convicted pedophile Jeffrey Epstein, who resigned from public office four years ago.

He was stripped of his title of HRH in January 2022 following allegations of sexual assault by Epstein victim Virginia Giuffre. He continues to vehemently deny these claims.

The following month, Andrew reached a multimillion-pound out-of-court settlement with Ms Giuffre, which included damages and a donation to her charity “to support victims’ rights”.

In a statement confirming the settlement, Andrew said he “regrets his association with Epstein and commends Ms. Giuffre and other survivors for their courage in standing up for themselves and others.”

Meanwhile, the Duchess of Sussex is considered the second most unpopular member of the royal family. The former actress became a controversial figure after she and her husband Prince Harry chose to leave the company, citing accusations of racism within the family and wider media intrusion.

Prince Harry also fared poorly in the polls, with 61% of respondents expressing a negative view of the king’s youngest son.

The Princess of Wales has become Britain’s most popular royal, with 76 per cent of respondents admitting they have a positive opinion of her.

The move follows Kate’s recent poor health, which began when she resigned from public duties in January due to planned abdominal surgery.

While she was due to return after Easter, last month she revealed she was battling cancer and would not return to work “until her medical team gives her permission to do so”.

As announced in February, her cancer diagnosis came just months after King Charles’s.

The king lost out in a veritable popularity contest to his sister Princess Anne, with 71 per cent of respondents saying they had a positive opinion of her.

The second most popular royal is Prince William, who is only 3% less popular than the Princess of Wales, with 73% of respondents viewing him positively.

The poll comes at a turbulent time for the royal family, which has been rocked by the cancer diagnoses of the King and Princess of Wales.

This essentially resulted in the two most senior family members being fired while their spouses rallied to support them and perform public duties.

In both cases, the type of cancer and its severity have not been disclosed.

The crisis comes after King Charles revealed plans to streamline the monarchy to give the British public value for money.

Princess Anne said she didn’t think it was a “good idea” at the time.

There are now only nine working royals left – most of them old and unknown.
