Several children were injured when a school bus collided with a bridge and its roof broke.
According to Lancashire Police, the bus collided with a bridge on Spendmore Lane in Coppool, Lancashire just after 12.30pm on Wednesday. Emergency services attended and the road was closed for about three hours.
Passengers were deboarded from the bus and approximately 30 children were evaluated by medical staff. Eight were treated by paramedics for minor injuries.
A North West Ambulance Service spokesman said an eight-year-old boy was taken to hospital with head injuries.
The driver and two teachers on board the plane were also safe. The road was reopened at around 4 pm.
Photos from the scene show that the roof of the bus has been broken.
A Lancashire Police spokesman said Independent: “We received a report just after 12.30pm that a school bus had collided with a bridge on Spendmore Lane, Coppool.
“Emergency services attended and everyone on board the bus was safely removed from the bus. Approximately 30 children were assessed by medical staff and eight were treated by paramedics for minor injuries.
“One child, an eight-year-old boy, was taken to hospital with serious head injuries. The driver and two teachers who were also on board were not injured.
“The road was closed for about three hours while we dealt with the incident and for the recovery of the bus, a double decker.
“It has now been reopened. We would like to thank everyone for their cooperation and support as we dealt with this incident, which thankfully prevented any serious injuries.”
