The moment the youngest peer, 28, takes office in the House of Lords

The youngest-ever life peer already has a seat in the House of Lords, which she wants to abolish.

Carmen Smith, 28, of Plaid Cymru, will be known as Baroness Smith of Llanfaes.

She succeeded in becoming the youngest ever life peerage in Alderley Edge, with Baroness Owen being appointed a life peerage in July 2023 at the age of 30.

The average age of the unelected House of Representatives is 71 years.

Wearing a faux fur robe instead of the traditional ermine robe, she swore allegiance to King Charles III in both English and Welsh.
