A list of the world’s most corrupt countries released on Tuesday showed that most have made little progress in tackling public sector corruption.

according to Corruption Perception Index (CPI) 2023 Data released by Transparency International show that the global consumer price index has remained unchanged at 43 for the twelfth consecutive year, with more than two-thirds of countries scoring below 50.

The CPI ranks 180 countries and territories on the level of public sector corruption on a scale of 0 (highly corrupt) to 100 (very clean).

The least corrupt country in the world

Denmark topped the list for the sixth consecutive year with a score of 90, thanks to a “well-functioning judicial system,” the report said.

Finland (87) and New Zealand (85) ranked second and third respectively.

Norway scored 84 points, while Singapore (83 points), Sweden (82 points), Switzerland (82 points), the Netherlands (79 points), Germany (78 points) and Luxembourg (78 points) were the least corrupt countries. Corruption Perception Index 2023.

The most corrupt country in the world

Somalia scored 11 points, while Venezuela (13 points), Syria (13 points), South Sudan (13 points) and Yemen (16 points) were at the bottom of the 2023 Corruption Perceptions Index.

“They are all affected by protracted crises, most of which are armed conflicts,” the report said.

Also at the bottom of the index is North Korea, with a score of 172.

India ranks 93rd in Global Corruption Index 2023

Transparency International reported that India ranked 93rd in the Corruption Perception Index 2023, with a score of 39, with the overall score remaining essentially unchanged.

India has a total score of 40 points in 2022, ranking 85th.

Pakistan (scored at 29) and Sri Lanka (scored at 34) are both struggling with their respective debt burdens and attendant political instability, the report said.

The 2023 Corruption Perceptions Index is based on perceptions of public sector corruption and uses data from 13 external sources, including the World Bank, World Economic Forum, private risk and consulting firms, think tanks and others.
