In an important decision, the government on Wednesday decided that caste calculations would be included in the upcoming census.
Regarding the decisions made by Union Cabinet, Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnav, briefing the media that some states have conducted a caste survey and it is in the central government to conduct the census.
He said that the Cabinet Committee (CCPA) on political matters has decided today that caste count should be included in the upcoming census.
Vaishnav alleged that Congress governments have “always opposed the caste census”.
“Caste was not included in all census works held since independence. In 2010, the then Prime Minister Manmohan Singhji assured the Lok Sabha that the case of caste census would be considered in the cabinet. A group of ministers was formed to consider the subject. Most political parties recommended a caste sensor.
“It is well understood that the Congress and its INDI coalition partners have used caste census as only a political tool. According to Article 246 of the Constitution of India, the subject’s census is listed in 69 in the union list in the 7th schedule. According to the Constitution of India, some states have done anything. All these facts have been done. For that breeds must be included in the census rather than a transparent survey.
Vaishnav said that it will strengthen the social and economic structure of the society while the nation is moving forward.
“Under the leadership of PM Modi, the Cabinet Committee on Political Affairs has decided today that the census of caste should be included in the upcoming census. It shows that the government is committed to the values and interests of the society and the country,” he said.
The minister said that the Modi government had earlier introduced ten percent reservation for economically weaker sections without any stress on any part of the society.
The Congress is demanding a caste census, the party leaders repeatedly demanded in their speeches. (AI)
