On February 4, Facebook celebrated its 20th birthday. In 2004, Mark Zuckerberg launched “thefacebook.com” from his Harvard dorm room. 20 years later, people are still fascinated by it. Facebook has become the place to connect with anyone, anywhere, and it is reported that by 2023, more than 3 billion people will use Facebook every month, a 3% increase from the previous year.

On Sunday, the 39-year-old tech mogul shared a montage of photos and videos from the past 20 years on Instagram, which is owned by his company Meta. “Twenty years ago, I launched a product. Along the way, a lot of great people joined us and we built something even better. We’re still working on it and the best is yet to come,” he wrote.

The video begins by saying, “I have a feeling this is going to go by fast,” before cutting to Aerosmith’s “Dream On.”

In the video, Zuckerberg can be seen posing with his original companions and colleagues, including Facebook co-founder Edwardo Saverin. Their relationship seriously soured, leading to individual lawsuits being filed by both parties. The incident occurred when Zuckerberg was reducing Saverin’s stake in Facebook, and Saverin later claimed that Zuckerberg had misused company funds for personal expenses. The tumultuous events were depicted in the 2010 film The Social Network, starring Jesse Eisenberg as Zuckerberg and Andrew Garfield as Saverin.

The video also includes Zuckerberg’s wife, Priscilla Chan, and Meta’s former chief operating officer, Sheryl Sandberg, who resigned in 2022.

Zuckerberg also shared several posts on his account.

“20 years later, it’s still the same,” Zuckerberg wrote in a photo of him then and now, sitting at his desk looking at two very different computers 20 years apart.

Facebook changed the name of its parent company to “Meta” in late 2021, saying it was driven by Zuckerberg’s vision for immersive virtual worlds, known as the “metaverse,” to become the next major computing platform.

Meta Platforms Inc. CEO Mark Zuckerberg will receive about $700 million annually in dividends from the social media giant’s first-ever dividend to investors.
