Hyderabad:
An executive engineer attached to Telangana’s Tribal Welfare Engineering Department was arrested on Monday after he was caught red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 84,000, police said.
According to the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), the arrest followed a complaint by a person who accused K Jag Jyoti of demanding bribe in exchange for official favors. ACB took prompt action and caught the officer while receiving the specified amount.
A video of Jaga Jyoti crying after being caught is now viral on social media.

K Jaga Jyoti underwent phenolphthalein test, in which the fingers of her right hand tested positive. When phenolphthalein, a chemical compound, is broken down, it turns pink, making it a valuable tool in catching bribe recipients. When one handles a marked bill or document, traces of the solution stick to one’s hands, and a pink color appears when in contact with a light base.
The ACB said K Jag Jyoti acted improperly and dishonestly in the performance of duties with the aim of gaining undue advantage.
After his arrest, bribe amount of Rs 84,000 was recovered from his possession. The executive engineer is now in custody and will be produced before a Hyderabad court.
