A man from Andhra Pradesh’s NTR district rejected societal expectations and embraced love by marrying a transgender woman whom he met and fell in love with three years ago.

A man named Nandu, a native of Visannapet, and transgender woman Nakshatra, a resident of Enkur, met each other through Instagram. Despite many rejections from family and community, Nandu marries Nakshatra with the help of the state’s transgender association.

In the presence of representatives of the association, Nandu and Nakshatra tied the knot in a traditional manner at the Sri Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy temple at Garalavodu in Enkur mandal on Sunday.

“We both met in person and decided to get married but my family members rejected our marriage proposal. I met the members of the transgender association and the marriage took place without any hindrance”, Nandu said.

Transgender association members from different districts participated in the event and heartily blessed the couple.

talking with news18 The transgender woman said she had come to Enkur in 2015 and could not find a house on rent, people boycotted her and even filed a complaint against her at the local police station.

“I faced social exclusion. I appealed to the police and community members with folded hands and finally I got a house on rent.” He said that the sub-inspector assured the people of the society that his conduct in the society would be good.

“The sub-inspector of the police station assured the local people that if my conduct was not good, I would be sent out of the city.”

She said that her conduct and temperament helped her settle into the society quickly, adding that “the residents of the colony who complained against me have since then treated me like a goddess.”

While talking about her love life, Nakshatra said that she too has been heartbroken, but now she has faith in Nandu. “He (Nandu) divides the money equally between his parents and me,” he said, adding that they will adopt a child in future and make their home in the colony itself.
