New Delhi, October 26 (IANS) RJD leader and former Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav on Sunday launched a scathing attack on the ruling NDA government in Bihar and said the people of the state are ‘fed up’ with the current administration and are ‘in the mood for change’.

Speaking at a press conference, Yadav accused the Nitish Kumar-led government of corruption, administrative failure and neglecting industrial and employment development in the state.

Yadav said, “The campaign has started and the atmosphere clearly shows that Bihar is ready for change. People are tired of this sour government. Corruption and crime have reached their peak and there is neither any hearing nor any action.”

Criticizing Union Home Minister Amit Shah, he claimed that Shah himself has admitted that industries could not be established in Bihar due to lack of land. Yadav commented, “Amit Shah said factories and industries cannot come to Bihar. Prime Minister Modi set up factories, industries in Gujarat and for Bihar, he can only offer a thumbs up.” He said the government has spent heavily on investor summits and stadium projects in Gujarat while ignoring Bihar.

Yadav alleged that the NDA rule has turned Bihar into a barren land. He said, “When water remains stagnant for too long, it gets contaminated. If you sow seeds in the same field for 20 years, it becomes barren. Bihar has given 20 years to the NDA; now we should give 20 months to the people to bring real change.”

Outlining his plans if the grand alliance returns to power, Tejashwi announced several welfare measures. He said that three-tier Panchayat representatives and Gram Kachari members will be given pension and Gram Kachari representatives will be insured up to Rs 50 lakh. The government will also increase financial assistance under the ‘Public Distribution System’ and increase the per quintal payment rate.

“Representatives of panchayats and gram kacharis (village courts) were demanding pension benefits. We have decided that they will get pension. They will also enjoy insurance coverage of Rs 50 lakh. We will also increase the margins of those working as part of the public distribution network,” Yadav announced.

The RJD leader said his party has held talks with local workers like carpenters, barbers and potters and will introduce special financial assistance schemes for them. “We will provide financial assistance up to Rs 5 lakh so that small artisans can purchase their toolkits and start their work,” he said.

He also reiterated his previous promises to regularize contractual workers, recalling that during his 17-month tenure as Deputy CM, the government achieved what it could not in the other 17 years. He said, “If uncle ji (Nitish Kumar) had not changed sides, all the pending works would have been completed.”

Concluding the press conference, Yadav confirmed that discussions are underway with Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and the joint manifesto of the grand alliance will be announced soon. “We will soon sit together and present our vision for Bihar before the public,” he said.

Voting will be held in Bihar on November 6 and November 11 and the results will be declared on November 14.
