Teenage boy dies after being stabbed in woods near park

A teenage boy has died after being stabbed in woodland near a park in Guildford, police say.

Police and fire and ambulance crews were called to the area near Lido Road, Stoke Park, at around 6.10pm on Monday.

The boy, whose age has not been released, was pronounced dead at the scene, Surrey Police said. His family has been informed.

Detective Senior Superintendent Andy Jenkins said: “Firstly, our thoughts are with the victim’s family and friends at this extremely sad time.

“I know there will be a lot of concern and speculation in the local community following last night’s incident.

“I would like to reassure them that our officers are working around the clock to establish the circumstances of this tragic incident, gather as much evidence as possible and identify those responsible and bring them to justice.

“Our investigation is still in the early stages and we are eager to speak to anyone who has information that may assist our investigation.

“Were you in the area around Rideau Road, Park Avenue and Stoke Park between 6pm and 6.20pm on Monday 19 January?

“Did you see anyone acting suspiciously in the area or running away from the woods during this time? Any information you have, no matter how small, could be important.”

Police set up a cordon around the wooded areas known as “Peacock Grove” and “Wildwood Adventure” and at the end of the Lido Road car park.
