Isaac Bracco Rivera died last Saturday in Lakeview Park in the Lorain community of Cleveland suburb. He was a student of Lorraine Success Academy.
Police were dispatched to the park at around 6:44 pm on Saturday evening after receiving reports of shots fired. The park was full of students taking pictures earlier homecoming dance.
Once police arrived, they found a car parked near the west end of the parking lot, and an unresponsive 18-year-old man inside the vehicle. The young man, later identified as Rivera, was shot at least once in the head.

Police began treating Rivera until EMS arrived. He was then taken to Mercy Health – Lorain, where he was later pronounced dead.

“Through extensive investigative efforts, detectives learned that a teenage family member present with Mr. Brocco-Rivera was handling a gun inside the vehicle, and the gun accidentally discharged, fatally wounding Mr. Brocco-Rivera while both were seated in the car,” Morris wrote in a statement Friday.
Police recovered one handgun the night of the shooting, but later found a second handgun at another location, which they now believe was the weapon used in the fatal shooting.
Morris said that several people in the parking lot at the time were taking photos of the dance, but he did not confirm whether anyone at the scene actually witnessed the shooting.
“There were people who called saying they were near the shooting and were interviewed by police,” Morris said.
After learning of Rivera’s death, Lorain Success Academy released a statement acknowledging the incident.
In the statement, the school said it was “not able to share any further details at this time as the Lorain Police Department continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding her death.”
The school said it had deployed its crisis team to provide support to students and staff following Rivera’s death.
