Chennai: In a sharp attack on the DMK government, Tamil Nadu BJP president Nainar Nagendran has demanded a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into what he described as a massive Rs 888 crore “cash-for-jobs scam” in the state’s Municipal Administration and Water Supply (MAWS) department.
Nagenthran accused the ruling DMK of “preying on the future of honest Tamil youth” by allegedly taking bribes of up to Rs 35 lakh per post to appoint ineligible candidates, thereby depriving thousands of qualified applicants of proper employment opportunities.
According to him, more than 1.12 lakh applicants had applied during the recruitment process 2024 for 2,538 vacancies in the department.
“In the name of appointments, the DMK filled its pockets by collecting lakhs of rupees per post and recruiting ineligible persons,” Nagenthran said in a statement.
The BJP leader pointed out that the appointment orders for these posts were handed over personally by Chief Minister MK Stalin only two months ago, making the alleged irregularities even more serious.
He said, “If corruption can happen in a recruitment drive inaugurated by the Chief Minister, one can only imagine how many such scams have taken place in the last four and a half years.”
Nagenthran further said that the Enforcement Directorate’s revelations – suggesting large-scale bribery in the MAWS recruitment process – show how deeply corruption has taken root in the DMK regime.
“From air to sanitation, corruption is at every level of this government. Now, the dreams of the youth of Tamil Nadu are also being robbed,” he alleged.
Describing the incident as “a grave betrayal of the unemployed and brilliant youth of the state”, Nagenthran stressed that only a CBI investigation can “expose” the full extent of the wrongdoing.
“On behalf of the people of Tamil Nadu, BJP demands an impartial CBI investigation to expose the mastermind behind this scam and ensure justice for the victims of DMK’s corrupt rule,” he said.
