Kolkata, Oct 25 (IANS) According to Leader of Opposition in the West Bengal Assembly Suvendu Adhikari, the Trinamool Congress for the 2026 West Bengal elections aims to ensure a division of not only Hindu votes but also the overall non-Muslim votes to retain power in the state for the fourth consecutive time.
“Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s only goal is division of non-Muslim votes. Even as she tries to ensure that the rift remains between different sects of Hindus in the state. In the hills of North Bengal, she had created 11 separate development boards with the sole purpose of dividing different sects within Hinduism. So there is a need for unity of all these sects to bring the state out of the current misgovernance,” the leader said. The opposition said while addressing a rally in Gangarampur in West Bengal’s South Dinajpur district on Saturday.
On this occasion he also said that there is a need to form “Dharma Raksha” committees at the block level in the state by uniting different sects of Hindu religion.
The opposition leader said, “The Chief Minister is trying to mislead people by equating ‘CAA’ and ‘NRC’. CAA is already in force. This law is to give citizenship, not to take it away. But the ruling party in the state is spreading misconceptions about CAA.”
On this occasion, he also said that the present ruling party is deliberately ruining the education system in the state. “There are nine lakh undergraduate seats in the state. But this year, only three lakh seats have been filled. This means that either students are not willing to study after higher secondary or prefer to go to other states. This is because there are no job opportunities in the state,” the official said.
“We have seen a lot. The present regime is a dictatorial regime that crushes dissent. The ruling party goons are oppressing the women of the state with impunity. The land mafia has spread a reign of terror. And they are all enjoying the protection of the state administration,” he said.
Meanwhile, a Trinamool Congress spokesperson said that since it is the BJP which always nurtures divisive politics in the country, the ghost of that divisive politics always haunts the leader of the opposition.
