Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha said on Saturday that Jammu and Kashmir are going through a remarkable change, especially in education, women empowerment and economic fields.
Speaking at Shopian, LG, per news agency-Kashmir News Observer (KNO) underlined the shifting mindset and eliminated false narratives, which once discouraged community engagement with initiatives such as Sadbhavna schools of the army.
“There was a time when people were asked not to send their children to the goodwill schools. Sinha questioned.
He stressed that this misleading propaganda has lost its land in the last five years, and people now recognize the value and quality of education being provided in these institutions.
He said that the Sadbhavna schools of the army have become a symbol of hope and opportunity for many people in remote and struggle affected areas. “Today, students of these schools are not only to learn subjects – they are becoming responsible citizens, and are excellent in many competitive fields.”
LG Sinha highlighted the significant progress made by women in the region. He said, “Thousands of women in Jammu and Kashmir have joined self -help groups (SHGs) and are no longer job seekers – they have become job providers, changes from the front,” they said.
Citing major schemes such as the National Rural Livelihood Mission (NRLM), Umeed, and Tejaswini, LG said that these programs are not only financial equipment, but a platform of change. “Through these initiatives, women are getting skill-based training, financial assistance and advice. This has enabled them to establish their own business and achieve social and economic freedom,” he said.
Local SHGs, especially in rural belts such as Shopian, have been active in areas such as horticulture, food processing, sewing, and agricultural disaster. LG said, “The confidence on his face says all this – they believe in themselves, and they believe in the future,” LG said.
LG Sinha said that the UT economy has doubled in the last five years, an achievement, improving law and order made by good governance, and public participation in development processes has increased.
“This increase is not only in number – it reflects better roads, schools, digital infrastructure and livelihood. We hope that this trend will continue this year too,” he said- (KNO)
