Sir Keir Starmer said it was a time for “optimism and new beginnings” in his Easter message.

In his speech, the Labor leader, who hopes to reach No. 10 by the end of the year, said people would use Easter to think about “our future and how things can get better”.

Sir Keir said: “The Easter story is a story of hope and renewal, of overcoming adversity and the triumph of light over darkness.

“As family and friends gather to celebrate the holidays, we turn our thoughts to new beginnings, our future and how things can get better.”

Meanwhile, Rishi Sunak praised the work of Christians in his Easter message.
