Sir Keir Starmer says everyone should “step back” and give the Princess of Wales privacy while she recovers from abdominal surgery.
The Labor leader said it was his “human reaction” as “a father and a human being”.
When asked if he felt sorry for Kate, he told channel 5Jeremy Vine: “Yeah. I think we should leave her alone.
“Her surgery was difficult and she deserves privacy.”
He added: “We should quit and leave her alone… That’s not really a political reaction, it’s a human reaction as a father and as a human being.”
Sir Keir’s comments come amid reports that up to three people may have been involved in obtaining Kate’s private details after she was discharged from a London clinic in January.
Earlier, Health Minister Ms Andrea Leadsom told sky news The attempt to access the Princess of Wales’s records was “completely outrageous”, adding: “Obviously this is a matter for the Information Commissioner but the reality is that every patient has the right to their privacy.”
The UK’s privacy and data protection watchdog said it had received a report of the breach and was “assessing” the information.
The reports come as social media continues to debate Kate’s health, absence from public life and an altered photo posted on Mother’s Day.
Kate and her husband were reportedly spotted at the Windsor Farm Shop near Adelaide Cottage on the grounds of Windsor Castle this week.
Downing Street also urged the public to “support” Kate as she recovers amid a series of conspiracy theories about her health.
