Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Remake ‘Alive and Well’: Report

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Remastered has had a tumultuous development history since its debut at the PlayStation Showcase in 2021. The remake of the beloved 2003 RPG game was delayed indefinitely and changed developers in 2022, with Saber Interactive replacing Aspyr. Last month, Saber, along with other studios under its brand and its licensed IP, Sell Embracer Group spent $247 million, creating further uncertainty about the remake project. Now, Saber has confirmed that the studio is still developing the game.

talking IGN On Wednesday, Saber Interactive CEO Matthew Karch confirmed that a KOTOR remake is in active development, with the studio retaining the project following its split from Embracer Group.

Saber Interactive bosses didn’t reveal any other details about the game, nor did they mention a release timeline. However, it might be a while before we see the release of Knights of the Old Republic Remastered. During the spin-off of Saber from Embracer Group, Embracer CEO Lars Wingefors once suggested The game won’t be released within the next 12 months.

The remake project was first announced as a trailer in 2021 as part of the PlayStation Showcase. The game has been announced for PlayStation 5 and PC, but a full trailer has yet to be released to reveal more details about gameplay. The game is initially being developed by Aspyr Media and is scheduled to launch in late 2022.

In July 2022, the game was delayed indefinitely after three years in development by Aspyr. According to reports at the time, internal demos of the Star Wars game were not well received by partners Sony and Lucasfilm.

Later that year, the project changed hands, with Saber Interactive taking over control. Bloomberg reported at the time that a more realistic release window for the remake was 2025.

The original Knights of the Old Republic was released for Xbox and PC in 2003 and was developed by RPG veterans BioWare. The game was later ported to mobile platforms, most recently to the Nintendo Switch in 2021.
