Son of former YouTube CEO found dead at university, family suspects drug overdose

New Delhi:

Former YouTube CEO Susan Wojcicki’s son, 19-year-old Marco Troper, was found dead in a UC Berkeley dormitory earlier this week, his family confirmed inside.

He was found dead when authorities responded to reports of an unresponsive student in Clark Kerr Hall at UC Berkeley. Despite the efforts of the Berkeley Fire Department to perform life-saving measures, Troper was pronounced dead.

The cause of death is unclear at this time, and campus police said there are no signs of foul play. However, Troper’s grandmother, Esther Wojcicki, believes he may have died of a drug overdose.

Esther Wojcicki told SFGATE: “He ingested a drug, but we don’t know what was in it… We do know it was a drug.”

The family is awaiting toxicology reports to help confirm the cause of death, but that could take up to 30 days.

In a Facebook post, she described her grandson as a “loving” and “mathematical genius.”

Troper is a freshman mathematics major who has just started his second semester at UC Berkeley. His academic pursuits and social life seemed to be thriving, with a strong circle of friends in his dorm room at Stern Hall and his involvement in the Zeta Psi fraternity.

Esther Wojcicki expressed the family’s grief in a poignant Facebook post. “Marco was the kindest, most loving, smartest, funniest, most beautiful person,” she wrote. “He had just started majoring in math at UC Berkeley, second semester of his freshman year, and absolutely loved it.”

She reflects on Troper’s vibrant life and recounts the countless stories he shared about his experiences and friends at Berkeley.
