Francis Xavier Minz, a security guard at the exit point of the arrival hall at Ranchi’s Birsa Munda International Airport, keeps a close watch on the arrival of Team India ahead of the fourth Test against England starting on Friday, February 23. As the Indian cricketers passed by him after deboarding their private jet, Francis was hopeful that someday his son Robin would also be a part of the team. For those unaware, his son Robin recently became a millionaire when Gujarat Titans spent Rs 3.60 crore to acquire his services for the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) season.

Francis explained, “I see everyone coming out of the airport, but hardly anyone notices me. Why should they? I’m just a security guard here, one of many.” Indian Express In Ranchi.

Despite his son getting a big IPL contract, Francis stressed that there is still a long way to go as far as an India call-up is concerned. Notably, Robin is the first tribal cricketer to secure an IPL contract.

“He’s just getting started. The world has almost registered his name.” the road is still long (The Indian team still has a long way to go),” he said.

Speaking on the nature of his job, Francis quipped: “It’s my job, to make sure no one who walks out of the airport re-enters without an ID. You never know who’s got a gun in their hand.” Yes. One mistake and I lose my job.”

Francis, who has served in the army for nearly two decades, has no intention of quitting the job, despite the financial benefits of his son’s IPL contract.

“I can’t afford to slack off because my son is an IPL cricketer. Of course, there is more financial security in the family, but you never know what life will be like. Many of my colleagues ask me why I need to work more now. But I tell them that as long as I feel like working and am healthy, I will keep working. If I don’t earn something for myself, I can’t sleep,” he further revealed.

Francis said that they still live in the same house, and there has been no change in Robin’s lifestyle since then.

“We still live in the same house. I still ride the same bike. It’s a nice house, so we haven’t even thought about changing it or buying a bigger one. Luckily, Robin remains the same . He knows he has to keep working hard, and it can’t be taken away. “He’s still our same old guy,” Francis said.

Francis also highlighted the role of former India captain MS Dhoni in his son’s cricket journey.

Just days after the IPL auction, Francis had revealed that Dhoni had promised him that CSK would pick Robin if no one on the table bid for him.
