An elderly woman died after she was allegedly beaten up by her son in this district, police said on Monday.
The incident occurred in an area under Kayamkulam police station limits.
According to police, Santhamma was allegedly attacked by her 43-year-old son Brahmadevan on Saturday night following an argument over his drinking habits.
On Sunday morning, family members found the seventy-year-old woman lying on the bed unconscious and took her to the hospital, where she was declared brought dead.
Post mortem examination revealed that the cause of death was broken ribs and head injury.
Starting the investigation, the police found that a dispute between the mother and son had started after Santhamma was brought home drunk from a religious function.
