First, many have made up the untrue assertion that the path of the eclipse passes through each of the seven American cities named Nineveh, an Iraqi city that the Bible calls “evil.”
Furthermore, according to other major conspiracy theories surrounding the eclipse, the eclipse is being used to aid the billionaire-led New World Order and establish a state of emergency.
Right-wing celebrity and conspiracy theorist Alex Jones tweeted the idea, claiming the government was trying to spread fear and use the eclipse to divert attention. The theory cites states of emergency declared in multiple counties in Texas and Oklahoma.
Although counties issued warnings ahead of the eclipse, this does not seem to be surprising nor does it imply any state of emergency, rather it appears to be a precautionary measure to keep people safe.
For example, Travis County, Texas, declared a state of emergency because people viewing the eclipse could cause “disruptions to phone service” and “extreme traffic congestion.”
