Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) mentor Gautam Gambhir offered free sweets to reporters on the eve of Bengali New Year or Poila Baisakh on Saturday. The touching incident took place on the eve of KKR’s match against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at Eden Gardens. An ecstatic Gambhir distributed sweets to reporters in the press box after resolving some of KKR’s thorny issues so far in the season. The former LSG mentor uploaded a video of the same on his social media account.

Gambhir, the two-time IPL champion captain of KKR, returns to the team as a mentor after serving two seasons in a similar role with LSG.

Gambhir led KKR to the IPL title in 2012 and 2014. During Gambhir’s tenure with LSG, KKR lost all three games at the Eden Gardens to the Lucknow side.

Before the game against LSG, Gambhir said his time in Lucknow had no impact on the game.

“It’s a new day, a new beginning. What’s different about what happened the last two years? There’s really no difference. We’re starting from scratch,” Gambill said.

“We are all very much looking forward to tomorrow’s game. You know, this is a quality team. But we are also a quality team,” concluded.
