Shock to Mahua Moitra, Delhi HC refuses to interfere in bungalow eviction notice

In a blow to suspended MP Mahua Moitra, the Delhi High Court on Thursday refused to interfere with the Directorate of Estates’ notice asking the Trinamool Congress leader to vacate the government residence.

Due to her expulsion from the Lok Sabha last year, Moitra was asked to vacate the government bungalow. This house was allotted to him as a Member of Parliament and since he no longer holds the post, the department sent him an eviction notice.

The DoE is responsible for the management and maintenance of the centre’s facilities and residential properties.

The DOE had sent an eviction notice to Moitra on Tuesday. A source told news agency PTI, “Since she (Moitra) was issued an eviction notice on Tuesday, now a team of officials from the Directorate of Estates will be sent to ensure that the government bungalow is vacated as soon as possible.” “

After her eviction on December 8 last year, Moitra was asked to vacate the bungalow by January 7 as her allotment was cancelled.

The DoE issued a notice on January 8 seeking his reply within three days as to why he had not vacated his official residence. After this, another notice was issued to him on January 12.

The Delhi High Court on January 4 had also asked the TMC leader to approach the DoE with a request to allow him to stay in the government accommodation allotted to him.

The TMC leader was expelled from the Lok Sabha last month after being held guilty of “immoral conduct” over allegedly accepting gifts from businessman Darshan Hiranandani. He also allegedly shared his user ID and password of the Parliament website with her.
