Sheila was raised in a devout Christian family and remained active in the church community throughout her life. She attended Georgetown College for her undergraduate degree and continued her education with a master’s degree in education from the University of Louisville.

In 1972, Sheila married Gary Cook, who was seeking to become a minister. They moved to Texas and began Gary’s journey to pursue his PhD at Baylor University, where he later joined the faculty. Together, Sheila and Gary raised two beloved sons, David and Mark, who hold an irreplaceable place in her heart. Her love and devotion extended not only to her sons, but also to their respective wives and beloved grandchildren.

Passion for teaching

For nearly two decades, Sheila has dedicated herself to the noble task of educating students with learning disabilities and intellectual disabilities. At the same time, she selflessly volunteered in many church activities, including Sunday School and Vacation Bible School, where her exceptional talent for teaching and uplifting others shone through.
