Trivandrum:

Shashi Tharoor, the Congress-led UDF candidate from Thiruvananthapuram Lok Sabha constituency, on Saturday released a 68-page booklet detailing his contribution to the constituency over the past 15 years as an MP.

Addressing a rally here, Shashi Tharoor said that whenever he contested elections, he was faced with baseless accusations and this time the accusation was that he had not done anything for the constituency in the past 15 years.

“They said I had done nothing in the last 15 years. So I issued a 68-page development report,” said Shashi Tharoor.

He also scoffed at the term “Modi’s assurance”, saying the BJP’s only assurance was that they would not deliver on their promises.

“Jumla is their only guarantee,” he added.

Noted Malayalam film director Adoor Gopalakrishnan received the first copy of this booklet.

Shashi Tharoor said he first thought of handing the booklet to a political leader and then decided to invite a widely respected public figure.

“My job is not only for the Congress party but also for the people of the state. So I thought it would be better if I hand over this development report to a public figure who is widely accepted and respected. I am grateful to Adore Adoor Gopalakrishnan accepts this invitation,” Shashi Tharoor said.

Shashi Tharoor listed the development works he has done for his constituency and his role in major projects such as the National Highway Bypass and the construction of the Vizhinjam seaport.

The MP also criticized the BJP-led National Development Authority for not doing anything for Thiruvananthapuram in the past decade.

“Even the promises made in Parliament have not been implemented,” Shashi Tharoor said.

He said the current NDA candidate Rajeev Chandrasekhar made the promise after being announced as the candidate.

Shashi Tharoor said he was seeking votes not only in light of the developments but also for his consistent political stand on major issues in the country.

“I firmly oppose the Modi government’s efforts to destroy the concept of India and the spirit of the Constitution. My political stance remains consistent and I oppose such divisive tactics adopted by the central government inside and outside the House,” he added.

He said he sought votes to continue his fight against the BJP and continue doing good work for the constituency.
