Shahid Afridi speaks out to PCB over son-in-law Shaheen’s possible sacking as T20 captain Cricket News

Former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi has come to the defense of his son-in-law Shaheen Shah Afridi following rumors that the high-pace bowler will be Removed from captaincy of T20 national team. “I think if you appoint someone as captain (Shaheen) and give him responsibility, then give him time as well,” Afridi told the media on Tuesday. “The biggest problem with our cricket is that whenever the faces on the board change, our system changes. Whoever comes in thinks that what he is doing is best for Pakistan cricket,” Av Reedy said.

Afridi said Shaheen should be given enough time to prove himself.

“If you change the captain, then either the decision to appoint him was wrong or the decision to replace him now is wrong,” he added.

Afridi was seen as one of the main driving forces behind Shaheen’s appointment as captain of the T20 national team after the ODI World Cup in India last year. Babar Azam was relieved of his duties as white-ball captain after Pakistan failed to advance to the league stage. The captain then went off with a red ball.

Afridi also supported the appointment of a foreign coach but said it should be a high-profile person like Andy Flower who has a proven track record.

“I believe that even if a foreign coach is brought in, the staff under him should be Pakistani so that our people can also progress and improve their skills,” he said.

When asked about the decision to include Imad Wasim and Mohammad Amir in the national training camp, Afridi felt it would be best to assess their fitness first.

“But I can tell you that if they can get through the two-week training camp in Kakul, they will be superhuman,” he said.

Aamir, who retired after 2020, also backed Shaheen as T20 captain.

“Shaheen is not bad, I think he should be given time to prove his credentials,” he wrote on Twitter.
