Shaheen Afridi to be relieved of Pakistan T20I captaincy after just five games?Report makes big claims | Cricket News

Pakistan star pacer Shaheen Afridi is under scrutiny after his poor performance by Lahore Qalandars in the ongoing Pakistan Super League (PSL) match. Shaheen has failed to inspire Lahore Qalandars this season after leading his team to the title in two consecutive seasons. The team has performed poorly this season, winning only one game and finishing at the bottom of the standings.according to pakistan cricketShaheen is about to lose his position as captain of Pakistan T20 team.

According to reports, Shaheen is still too young to bear this responsibility at the moment.

The report said, “The new PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi has been receiving suggestions to change the captaincy. Some people believe that the 23-year-old Shaheen is too young for this responsibility and needs to be more mature.”

Pakistan will take on New Zealand in a T20 series next month and Naqvi will take a decision on Shaheen’s future as captain ahead of that, keeping in mind the upcoming T20 World Cup.

“On the other hand, some board members believe that the decision to change leadership so close to the World Cup may not be wise as it may have a negative impact on the team’s performance. The final decision will be made by the chairman,” the report added.

It is also worth mentioning that wicketkeeper-batsman Mohammad Rizwan may be appointed as the new captain and former captain Babar Azam’s name is also being discussed.

The report further stated: “If the situation changes, Muhammad Rizwan is more likely to be appointed to this position. However, Babar Azam will also emerge as a contender.”

For the uninitiated, Shaheen took over as Pakistan T20 captain after Babar stepped down after the ODI World Cup in India last year.

Babar resigned from his post after Pakistan failed to qualify for the World Cup semi-finals.

Shaheen led Pakistan in a five-match series in New Zealand earlier this year. However, the visiting team lost the series 1-4 and won the final game of the series.

On the other hand, both Rizwan and Babar are hoping to lead their respective teams to the PSL title.

Rizwan’s Multan Sultans finished top of their group, winning seven of their 10 games.

Peshawar Zalmi also qualified for the playoffs on Monday as they defeated Karachi Kings in a crucial match with Babar scoring 50 points.

Babar has scored 498 runs in 9 games so far, becoming the leading run-scorer in the tournament.
