SGR, CS to reduce strategic plan to reduce traffic congestion in JMU cities

Srinagar, June 21: An important meeting of the multi-disciplinary committee on traffic management systems for Jammu and Srinagar was called today under the chairmanship of Chief Secretary, Atal Dulu.

The committee made extensive reviews of existing traffic challenges and proposed advanced strategies to increase urban dynamics, streamlines logistics and improve road safety in both cities.

Members of the committee participating in the meeting included the Principal Secretary, Ghar; Commissioner Secretary, H&UDD; Commissioner Secretary, Tourism; Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir/Jammu; Excavation traffic, Jammu/Kashmir; SSP Traffic (City), Srinagar/Jammu; Commissioner, JMC/SMC along with other concerned officials.

The Chief Secretary directed for a proper implementation plan with a defined role for each stakeholder involved. He highlighted the importance of such a scheme to make travel experiences less cumbersome for both passengers and passengers.

The Chief Secretary asked the Divisional Commissioners to work in their respective fields to work in such methods, and later, they are being consolidated to form a well-thinking strategy for both Jammu and Srinagar. He advised to create a web portal that defines actionable points related to various departments, so that the role was played and progress could be easily tracked into the subsequent meetings.

The major discussion organized at the meeting revolves around the need for the development of detailed traffic management plans for Srinagar and Jammu by the traffic department. The focus was on using scientific studies and data analysis to identify alternative routes after incorporating feedback from local authorities, citizens and stakeholders.

A commitment was made to operate a efficient traffic management system, including installation, management and maintenance of traffic signals at key junctions, rotary and T-points.

Strategies for de-cratestians will be applied to high-level and vehicle traffic areas, especially in tourist and pilgrimage areas by traffic and tourism departments. T

In addition, major locations requiring road expansion or upgradation will be identified to accommodate the increasing traffic volume, which focus on increasing the carrying capacity of important roads. The committee also underlined the need for rapid development of ongoing developmental projects to reduce traffic congestion at major places.

In addition, strategies to address encroachments, especially by street hawkers and without their transfer and rehabilitation will be recommended by tourism and municipal bodies in consultation without interrupting traffic flows.

The scheme also portrays the identity of traffic-intelligent routes, where one-way movement or no-traffic zone can be applied, in which clear signage is installed. The routes to introduce e-bus services with increased frequency to reduce the use of individual vehicles were also a step towards reducing city roads from heavy traffic during peak hours.

Better road design, awareness campaigns and strict enforcement of safety norms were proposed to be targeted strategies to reduce accidents and lethal. The overall approach to integrate traffic management with urban planning and development showing synonym among key stakeholders such as traffic police, PWD (R&B), NHAI, and local authorities will be ensured for effective traffic solutions through minimal engineering interventions.

In addition, the development of infrastructure such as bus le-re-seeds, the designation of more places for on-world and off-world parking avenue in both cities were unanimously emphasized for growing vehicles on the roads here.

The committee also discussed the need for multi-model solutions such as mass rapid transit system, city bus system, inland water transport (IWT), ring rhodes, increased parking and integrated transport authority as other reliable solutions to reduce traffic crisis in its cities.
