A 37-year-old man from Coventry who defrauded four women across the UK of more than £300,000 has been jailed.according to Cheshire PoliceCieran McNamara, also known as Ciaran Griffin, Christian McNamara and Myles McNamara ), pretending to be a successful businessman. Detective Inspector Victoria Hazlewood of Cheshire Police said: “McNamara is a serial fraudster and I firmly believe he cannot distinguish between reality and fantasy.”

“He led his victims to believe he was a millionaire with properties across the country, but in reality he was unemployed and living out of a suitcase.”

In total, McNamara manipulated four women in Cheshire, Warwickshire and Hertfordshire to hand over £302,054.26 between September 1, 2022, and September 25 last year.

His downfall came after his victim in Cheshire realized what he was doing and reported her concerns to police.

Detectives from Cheshire Police’s Economic Crime Unit launched an investigation which resulted in McNalrama’s arrest in Colchester on Thursday, September 28.

He was subsequently charged with four counts of fraud by false representation.

After his arrest, police raided a locker rented by McNamara, where they seized brand new goods worth around £19,500, including a £1,900 Burberry coat, £400 Burberry scarves, Dubarry boots , Gucci sneakers and a Ping golf shoe. put.

Investigations to find other assets belonging to him are ongoing and the items recovered will be subject to a proceeds of crime hearing.

During the hearing, Judge Simon Berkson said McNamara was a serial fraudster and “I firmly believe he couldn’t tell the difference between reality and fantasy.” He also said McNamara posed a real risk to the future because he had little empathy for his victims.
