Gandhinagar, October 29 (IANS) The second session of ‘Atal Sanskar Lecture Series’ was successfully organized by SPIPA under the General Administration Department (GAP) on Tuesday.
‘Atal Sanskar Lecture Series’ is being organized to celebrate the 100th birth anniversary of former Prime Minister and Bharat Ratna late Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
On the occasion, Director General of Manohar Parrikar Institute for Defense Studies and Analyzes (MP-IDSA) and former Ambassador Sujan R. Chinoy said that Atal Bihari Vajpayee had a brilliant personality and was an intellectual, a poet, a philosopher and an excellent politician.
He said, “Vajpayee ji never allowed power, position, money or politics to influence his vision. National interest, welfare of Indian citizens and peaceful co-existence were always at the core of his policies.”
He said Vajpayee was a dynamic orator, fluent in Hindi, English and Urdu and never opposed any ideology, policy or idea and never displeased anyone at a personal level.
“Because of such qualities, even his political rivals admired him,” he said. He noted that Vajpayee’s political career began in the 1950s, spanning more than five decades. He served as MP 10 times in the Lok Sabha and 2 times in the Rajya Sabha.
Chinoy praised Vajpayee’s contribution to India’s foreign policy, saying that he worked to advance international relations, especially with China and Pakistan, and it was result-oriented.
He recalled, “Vajpayee proved to be excellent as both foreign minister and prime minister, exemplified by the Lahore bus trip with Pakistan and the decision not to cross the Line of Control during the Kargil conflict. Moreover, his talks with China proved to be a significant success.”
Chinoy also pointed out that this resulted in Sikkim being recognized as an integral part of India and talks began with Special Representatives for boundary talks.
“In addition, Vajpayeeji’s role as the architect of the post-Cold War strategic partnership between India and the United States proved to be very important,” he recalled.
On this occasion, a large number of officers and employees of General Administration Department and SPIPA, representatives of AMA, faculty members of Defense Studies and students were also present.
