Search operations continue for missing people in Uttarakhand's Dharli: Official

An official said that search operations for missing people are still going on in Dharli city of Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand, where there is a flash flood on Tuesday from Mousalal Rain Hit Hotel and residential buildings.

“Yesterday, we vacated about 382 people. Our operation is going on in three directions. We are emptying the pilgrims trapped in Gangotri, who have come from outside the state. We are restoring road connectivity. The third is cleaning the debris and is looking for the missing people in the worst debris.

He said that the dedicated senior officials are working on these three fronts.

“So far, so far, 44 people have been evacuated. Helicopter services are running uninterrupted. The weather is not suitable for Chinook and MI helicopters, so as soon as the weather becomes favorable, they will be deployed. They are still in Uttarkashi and are monitoring the operation … necessary foods are being sent.”

He said, “Two generators are ready to be taken to the affected area to restore electricity, and as soon as Chinook and Mi Choppers are approved, the generator will be blown immediately. The Internet will also be restored soon,” he said.

The state is observing heavy monsoon-trigger disintegration, especially in its high-height areas, leading large-scale withdrawal and relief operations led by several agencies. On Tuesday, two cloudbers, one in Dharli and the other in the dry top area near Dharli, caused widespread destruction, which caused the brunt of Dharli.

On Friday, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami held a meeting with officials of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) to review the ongoing rescue operation in Dharli.

Dharli-Herryil disaster is being rescued through helicopters and brought to the Matli helipad, from where arrangements have also been made to ensure their safe arrival at their destination.

National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) Dig Gambhir Singh Chauhan said helicopter services have been deployed to vacate the stranded people.

Several agencies, including the Indian Army, NDRF, Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), and local administration, are coordinating efforts in both land and air. (AI)
