Sanjay Nirupam claims he quit Congress before being expelled from party

Sanjay Nirupam says he resigned from Congress ahead of expulsion

Mumbai:

Former Congress leader Sanjay Nirupam, who was expelled from the party a day ago on Thursday, claimed that the disciplinary action against him came after he resigned as a leading member of the party.

The former MP from Mumbai North shared a screenshot of his letter to Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge in a post on X and said the Congress party decided to expel him soon after receiving his resignation letter last night .

Nirupam posted on issue a detailed statement.”

Nirupam wrote in a letter to Haq: “I have finally decided to fulfill your long-awaited wish and hereby announce my choice to resign as a leading member of the All India Congress Committee. This letter can be regarded as my Resignation letter. Please forgive me.” Admits the same thing. “

Congress general secretary KC Venugopal said in a statement on Wednesday evening that the senior leader was expelled from the Congress for “discipline” and “anti-party remarks”.

“Considering complaints of indiscipline and anti-party remarks, the Congress president has approved the expulsion of Sanjay Nirupam from the party for a period of six years with immediate effect,” Venugopal said.

Earlier in the day, Nirupam was dropped from the Congress party’s list of star candidates for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

The move follows his recent remarks against Indian block partner Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) during the seat-sharing talks for the Lok Sabha elections.

The Shiv Sena (UBT) has announced that its candidate Amot Kirtikar will contest from Mumbai North West district and Sanjay Nirupam is keen to contest from this seat.

Nirpu Am, who represented Mumbai North in the Lok Sabha in 2009, said the decision to field candidates from the Shiv Sena party in Mumbai was an attempt to marginalize the Congress party.

With 48 Lok Sabha seats, Maharashtra is the second largest contributor to the Lok Sabha after Uttar Pradesh.

In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the BJP won 23 of the 25 contested seats, while the undivided Shiv Sena bagged 18 seats. The Undivided National Congress Party, part of the opposition alliance, contested 19 seats and won four.
