National Commission for Women chairperson Rekha Sharma is scheduled to visit conflict-torn Sandeshkhali in West Bengal’s North 24 Parganas on Monday. Sharma will be on a two-day visit to the state.
The visit of the National Commission for Women chief comes at a time when women in Sandesh Khali have come forward with sexual harassment allegations. Sharma will hold a meeting with the Chief Secretary of West Bengal and the Additional Advocate General of West Bengal.
Meanwhile, Trinamool Congress leader Shibu Prasad Hazra, one of the prime accused in the Saunders Khali violence case, was produced before the police by a local court on Sunday Detention for eight days.
Hazra, who has been on the run since sexual harassment charges were filed against him, was arrested on Saturday from a hideout in Najat area of Basirhat.
