Samsung’s upcoming Foldable Unpacked event (whenever Samsung decides on the schedule) will be an interesting one.Although foldable devices are starting to become popular in the market High-end market segment Samsung currently faces competition in the global market from brands such as Huawei, Oppo and OnePlus. According to recent leaks, Samsung may be well-prepared to add another layer to its book-style foldable lineup this year. The Korean manufacturer is said to be preparing to launch two foldable phones, one of which will also carry the “Ultra” moniker this year. On the other hand, there’s also news about an affordable foldable phone, but aside from rumors that Samsung is working on such a lower-priced model, not much is known about it. Now, more information is available about this cheaper book-style foldable model, purportedly coming from industry sources and the supply chain.

According to Korean publication Sisa Journal, Samsung is expected to launch an affordable foldable phone in 2024. Keep in mind that an earlier report suggested Samsung might delay the launch of its affordable foldable phone until later and only release the standard Galaxy Z Fold 6 alongside the expected Galaxy Z in the usual mid-year Fold 6 Ultra model. event.

Additionally, the report states that Samsung will have to reduce the specs of the affordable foldable phone and use a watered-down application processor, display, and battery. However, sources citing supply chain and industry sources claim that the cheaper foldable phones will have similar camera specs to existing foldable models, which currently only includes the Galaxy Z Fold 5. In short, Samsung’s cheaper foldable phone will lose raw performance but still pack a bunch of capable (or superior) cameras.

The new affordable model is expected to feature a dual-camera module, with some of its features borrowed from existing foldable devices. The report also claims that the supply chain for Samsung’s sixth-generation foldable device will also remain intact (or as it was before). However, with sales of economy models expected to be higher than those of high-end models, the industry expects production to increase.

As for the price, industry sources say the phone will cost around $800 (roughly Rs. 66,000 before taxes), which is much less than what most of us would expect a budget book-style foldable phone to cost in 2024. The cheapest Galaxy Fold 5 in India is available for half the price.

Considering Huawei has also recently launched several models aimed at competing with Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 5, pushing for an affordable foldable phone does make sense compared to new devices like the OnePlus Open being launched globally. The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 is still much fatter. At the end of last year, India and other markets.
