Congress leader Sachin Pilot today raised eyebrows over party leader Supriya Shrinate’s choice of actor Kangana Ranaut from Himachal Pradesh’s Mandi commented on the remarks.
“If someone says something wrong, we will never defend it. Language should not be unparliamentary. Defamation of character is not good. Politics should always be issue-based,” Mr. Pilot told NDTV Yuva Secrets stated at the meeting.
“In such a momentous election, we should focus on issues. We should emphasize issues that directly concern voters and the general public,” he added.
Congress leader Supriya Shrinate posted a derogatory post on Instagram about Kangana Ranaut’s first election, prompting the National Commission for Women to file a complaint against the politician.
The post, accompanied by a photo of Ms Ranaut, was published just weeks before national elections.
Kangana Ranaut, 37, had earlier slammed Ms Shrinate, saying she had played various roles and every woman should be treated with dignity.
“Dear Supriya ji, In the last 20 years of my career as an artist, I have played a variety of women. From an innocent girl in ‘Queen’ to a seductive spy in ‘Dhaakad’, from ‘Manikarnika’ to the demon in ‘Chandramukhi’, from the prostitute in ‘Rajjo’ to the revolutionary leader in ‘Thalaivii’,” Ms. Ranaut tweeted.
Ms. Shrinate clarified that her Facebook and Instagram accounts were accessible to a number of people who posted inappropriate posts.
“I deleted the post as soon as I found out. Everyone who knows me knows that I would never make personal and indecent comments about any woman. I want to know how this happened,” she said.
