Russian military cargo plane catches fire and crashes with 15 people on board

Moscow’s Defense Ministry said a Russian military cargo plane crashed shortly after takeoff in the country’s western Ivanovo region.

Russia accused Ukraine of shooting down the plane and claimed that everyone on board, including 64 Ukrainian prisoners of war, was killed. Ukraine has not confirmed or denied that Kiev was involved in the crash.

The Il-76 aircraft is designed to carry troops, cargo, military equipment and weapons and has been in service with the Soviet and Russian air forces since the 1970s.
