Russia reports downing 11 Ukrainian drones in Rostov

Russia said on Monday it had thwarted a Ukrainian drone attack on Russia’s southwestern Rostov region, where a fire at a power plant disrupted services.

The Russian Defense Ministry said its air defense systems shot down all 11 Ukrainian drones involved in the attack.

Rostov Region Governor Vasily Golubev said on Telegram that a fire broke out at the Novocherkassk power plant, causing two power plants to temporarily stop operating.

The plant’s operator, OGK-2, reported casualties from the incident and said the plant’s equipment was being evaluated.

The Ukrainian Air Force issued multiple warnings overnight against Russian missile and drone attacks.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said in a nighttime video address on Sunday that Ukraine’s air defense system needs to be “significantly strengthened” as Ukraine faces repeated Russian air strikes.

In the past week, from Monday to today, Russian terrorists used nearly 190 missiles of various types and nearly 140 Shahd drones. In addition, they launched nearly 700 guided air bombs. In the more than two years of this war, not a week went by without Russia committing a terrorist act. “

DTEK, Ukraine’s largest energy producer, has lost 50% of its production capacity after a series of Russian attacks on Ukrainian infrastructure since Friday, the country’s energy ministry and distributors said. Ukraine increased power imports and stopped on Sunday exit.

Poland said on Sunday it would demand an explanation for “new airspace violations” after a Russian missile briefly strayed into Polish airspace during a major missile attack on Ukraine.

Sunday’s incident prompted NATO members to activate F-16 fighter jets.

The head of the Kiev military government said that Russia used cruise missiles launched by Tu-95MS strategic bombers. It is unclear whether Russia intends to allow the missile to enter Polish airspace. A spokesman for the Polish army said the missile breached the NATO country’s airspace for about two kilometers on Sunday morning before returning to Ukraine.

“A cruise missile launched by the Russian Federation… Air Force at night violated Polish airspace,” the military said on [Lublin province] and stayed there for 39 seconds. “

According to Reuters, Foreign Ministry spokesman Pawel Wronski said: “Above all, we ask the Russian Federation to stop its terrorist air strikes against the people and territory of Ukraine, end the war and focus on the country’s own Internal issues.”
