After India captain Rohit Sharma raised his views on the ‘impact player’ rule, Indian Premier League (IPL) chairman Arun Dhumal also responded to the topic. Rohit had earlier started saying that he “doesn’t really like influencing sub-rules” while pointing out the flaws in them. Dhumal said everything has its pros and cons but the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is ready to review the rules after the IPL season ends.

The ‘Impact Player’ rule will be implemented first in the 2022-23 Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 tournament and then introduced in the IPL. Experts have put forward many opinions on this rule, which has been implemented in T20 events for the past two sessions, and most of them are against it.

“Now that such an observation has been made, we will definitely investigate. We will have discussions with all parties involved and then take a call,” Dumar told The Telegraph on Friday.

“There are various advantages and disadvantages to any current rule. We are open to any discussions once the season is over… Nothing is set in stone about its implementation,” he added.

Earlier, Rohit, who plays for Mumbai Indians in the IPL, explained how the impact player rule takes the role of an all-rounder out of the game.

“I’m not a big fan of the Impact sub-rule. It hinders the progress of all players and ultimately cricket is played with 11 players instead of 12. You take so much out of the game and make people around you feel Interesting. If you look at it just from a cricketing perspective, I feel like having guys like Shivam Dube and Washington Sundar not able to bowl is not a good thing for us,” Rohit said on the ‘Club Prairie Fire’ podcast .

“I don’t know what you can do. It’s fun to have 12 players for you and you can bring in impactful players after watching how the game goes, how the pitch performs. If you hit the ball well, you won’t Lose a wicket and you can add another bowler, it gives you the option of six or seven bowlers, you don’t need an extra batsman because a lot of teams are batting in front and you almost watch Not bowler No. 7 or No. 8 to bat,” he explained.
