The 2024 T20 World Cup is around the corner and questions remain over the selection of the Indian cricket team’s wicketkeeper. While KL Rahul will almost certainly find a place in the 15-man squad, there are multiple options available for the second option in the role. Rishabh Pant, Sanju Samson and Ishan Kishan are all important picks for the team management and youngster Jitesh Sharma has also impressed over the past year. However, legendary Australian cricketer Adam Gilchrist believes the selectors have a clear choice when it comes to selecting the T20 World Cup squad.

“I expect Rishabh Pant to be there for sure. I would also pick Sanju Samson. There is no doubt that Kishan is pushing a very good case. But I think Rishabh Pant, if he is not locked in, he should be locked in,” Gilchrist said on Cricbuzz.

Pant proved his quality for Delhi Capitals with a 24-ball 41 performance in the IPL 2024 win over Lucknow Supergiants on Friday. IPL 2024 is Pant’s first match since his near-fatal accident in 2022 and his performance is very encouraging for Indian cricket fans.

Pant has scored 194 runs in six games so far with an economy rate of 157.72.

Meanwhile, Ishan Kishan is currently the top run-scorer for Mumbai Indians while Sanju Samson is doing well for Rajasthan Royals. Sanju has scored 246 runs with 3 half-centuries in 6 games, while Kishan has scored 161 runs at a strike rate of 182.95.

Jitesh, on the other hand, did not get many opportunities to showcase his batting skills and even when he got the chance, the youngster failed to impress. The right-hander has scored just 77 runs in five games while his strike rate of 135.08 leaves a lot to be desired.
